History of Art and Design Graduate Program

Pratt Institute is an exceptional place to study the history of art and design. Our landmarked campus attracts leading artists, designers, historians, and theorists and is minutes from the studios, galleries, private collections, libraries, and museums that make New York a premier international art center.

The faculty is comprised of distinguished scholars who focus on the intellectual and professional growth of our students. Their expertise, dedication, and innovation can be seen in our broad range of courses, the academic and professional opportunities they make available, and most importantly, in the quality of our graduate students’ work.

Exploring our degree options, you will find participants studying 17th-century frescoes in Venice, 19th-century Dogon figures in the conservation laboratory at the Brooklyn Museum, and 21st-century performance art as a curatorial intern at the Guggenheim Museum.

History of Art and Design students bring a wide array of experiences and backgrounds to their studies and graduate the program with new knowledge, experience, and a professional network to inform and support their careers for many years.
